Every day, the Denver Police Department’s four-legged officers—our K9s and Mounted Patrol—play a critical role in protecting both their human partners and the community they serve.
Our K9 unit includes expertly trained apprehension dogs, narcotics detection dogs, and bomb-sniffing dogs, each deployed in high-risk situations to help locate suspects, uncover illegal drugs, detect explosives, and de-escalate dangerous encounters. These dogs are not only instrumental in apprehending criminals but also in preventing potential tragedies.
Meanwhile, our Mounted Patrol officers offer a strong and visible presence in high-traffic areas, assisting with crowd control, patrolling parks and neighborhoods, and engaging with the public to build trust and approachability.  The Denver Police Mounted Patrol horses have a charm and presence that always draws a crowd, and with their calm demeanor, striking appearance, and unmistakable personalities, it’s no wonder they leave a lasting impression wherever they go!
The effectiveness of both units lies in their ability to go where vehicles can’t, respond swiftly, and support officers during some of the most challenging calls. Maintaining this level of readiness requires specialized training, equipment, and veterinary care. If you want to stand behind these courageous and loyal partners, please consider making a donation today—your support ensures these animals continue to serve and protect with strength and heart.
